How to Transfer "Windows Live Contacts" [from Windows Live Mail] to XP

The "Windows Live Contacts" can be transferred to XP as follows:

  1. Start "Windows Live Mail"
  2. Click on "Contacts" to open the "Windows Live Contacts" window.
  3. Select the Contacts you wish to transfer.
  4. Press the F10 key (to see the full menu bar)
  5. Go to menu "File" - "Export" - "CSV (Comma Separated Values)".
  6. Browse to locate a folder on a device you can use on the XP machine.
  7. Enter a name for the exported file - click "Save"
  8. Step through the rest of the Export "Wizard" to make a copy of the "Contacts"
  9. Run Outlook Express on the XP machine.
  10. Click on the "Address Book" icon (on the OE toolbar).
  11. Go to the Address Book menu "File" - "Import" - "Other Address Book".
  12. Choose "Text File (Comma Separated Values)".
  13. Click Import.
  14. Locate the file from step 10... Open it.
  15. Import the data into the Address Book.
Note - the CSV export/import will not handle groups and it may create duplicates.
