Migration or transfer of Outlook data to a new machine can, at times, be difficult.  In most cases, OutBack Plus will make the transfer process much simpler. The points below should be used as a guide.

A.  Restoring to a machine running the same version of Outlook

If the new machine is running the same version of Outlook as the old machine, then a "Full Profile Restore" [as described in the OutBack Plus Help Documents] of the Outlook data is the usually all that is required.

B.  Restoring to a machine running Outlook 2010 or 2013 from an older version of Outlook:

It easiest to do the transfer in multiple steps as follows:

1.Install Outlook 2010 or 2013 on the new machine but do not start Outlook
2.Use OBP9 to do a "Default Profile File Restore" [as described in the OutBack Plus Help Documents] of the Outlook data
3.Start Outlook
4.Follow the steps as described on page "Outlook 2010/2013 email accounts"  to enter the email accounts and link them to the existing Personal Folder file(s).
5.Re-run the OBP9 restore to selectively restore any desired additional settings

C.  Restoring from an older version of Outlook to Outlook 2003 or newer:

If you are restoring from an older version of Outlook (pre Outlook 2003) to Outlook 2003 or newer, then follow the steps below:

1.Install Outlook (or Microsoft Office) on the new machine.
2.Start Outlook and perform the basic configuration (e.g. enter your email address).
3.Exit Outlook
4.Install OutBack Plus on the new machine
5.Run OutBack Plus
6.Click "Restore"
7.Locate the backup file from the older copy of Outlook -- "open" it.
8.Once the items available to be restored is shown - click the "Set Outlook Restore Method" button.
9.Choose the "Restore for Import" method [as described in the OutBack Plus Help Documents].
10.Check only the main Outlook Personal Folder files(s) for Import.
11.Click "Restore Now". OutBack Plus will show a window to guide you through the Import process.

Notes:

oOutlook stores the "Rules" within the Personal Folder file.  However, Outlook may choose to ignore or delete the rules (even though they are a part of the Outlook data restored).   If Rules are important, then export the rules on the old machine.  The export is available from the Outlook menu: "Tools" - "Rules and Alerts" - "Options".  Then, simply import them on the new machine.
oIf moving from an old version of Outlook to Outlook 2003 or newer, the email accounts and message rules will not transfer.  This is due to design differences in the versions of Outlook - it is not a "bug" in OutBack Plus.
